Areopagus

Acropolis                                                  Areopagus

Agora

 Acts 17:16-33

Paul was taken to the Areopagus, where he was asked for further explanation about his teachings. He proceeded to make a speech in which he spoke about religious life at Athens, the inborn human search for God, and the need to turn to God.

Context: The Areopagus or "Mars Hill" was a place named after Ares, the god of war. The name was given to the hill and to the council that met there. The rocky hilltop of the Areopagus is shown to the right of the photograph. The acropolis is at the left, and the agora or market area is at the bottom.
