Corinth: This street is part of the central district of Corinth. In Paul's time it was lined with shops, temples, and other public buildings. The street is part of a road that leads to Lechaeum, the port on the western side of the isthmus. Corinth's acropolis or upper city is located on the hill in the background. Most Greek cities were built near such a hill for defensive purposes. A temple to Aphrodite was located at the top of Corinth's acropolis.
