Paul followed the road known as the Appian
Way from the port of Puteoli north toward Rome. Christians from Rome came
to meet Paul at points along this road, including the Forum of Appius and
Three Taverns.
Context: The Appian Way or Via Appia was one of the principal land
routes in Italy. It extended across Italy, from the Bay of Naples on the
western coast to the Adriatic Sea on eastern coast.
