Judaism at Rome
Rome: A Jewish community had probably existed at Rome since the second or first century B.C. Some migrated to Rome voluntarily. Others were brought as slaves, although many were later freed. Jews were sometimes viewed with suspicion and occasionally were banished. Nevertheless, Jews were generally tolerated in Rome because their distinctive practices were part of their ancestral tradition.
