Urban growth demanded an adequate water
supply. The Romans provided state-of-the-art water systems to improve the
quality of life in the regions they governed. During the reign of Augustus
(27 B.C. A.D. 14), three aqueducts were built at Ephesus. Water from
the aqueducts poured from ornamental fountains along the city streets, and
it and supplied residents with a reliable source of water for daily life. |
