Sardis: Plaza

Sardis was devastated by an earthquake in A.D. 17. The Romans gave the city tax breaks and sent funds to help with rebuilding. Some structures were repaired and others were leveled to make space for new buildings. The large plaza shown here was located near the city’s center.
