Rome:

 Ara Pacis

The Ara pacis or altar of peace was dedicated by the Roman Senate in 9 B.C. to honor the peace that Caesar Augustus established throughout the world. The altar was surrounded by an enclosure and approached by steps. The panel shown at the lower left depicts a procession with the imperial household. The panel shown at the lower right pictures Rome, personified as a woman, sitting peacefully beside figures representing wind and water. A sheep grazes quietly at her feet while children cling to her. It gives the impression of the fruitful earth under the benevolent reign of the emperor.
