 Some
Jews probably lived in Thyatira in the first century A.D., although the
size of the community is not known. Lydia, the merchant from Thyatira, was
a "worshiper of God" before she met Paul in Philippi, which
probably meant that she was Jewish (Acts 16:14). An inscription of the
second or third century A.D. mentions a "sabbath house" in a
nearby town, which also suggests that there were Jews living in the area.
Although Jewish communities in some Asian cities were hostile toward
Christians, Revelation nothing is said about such friction in Thyatira. |
