Notes:
Since we do not have the manuscripts and other evidence at hand, Evaluating or Assessing a variation begins with noting the evidence as it is presented in a critical edition of the New Testament such as that of Nestle-Aland, now in its 27th edition.
The Textual Apparatus in the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece is the key summary of the Manuscript evidence relative to the variations in a particular passage. It includes:
1) a listing of all of the variations that occur in the various types of witnesses noted above;
2) a listing of the manuscript or other support for each of the variations.
