Earth Prayers
╬Gaelic Prayer
Deep peace of the
running wave to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining stars to you.
Deep peace of the watching shepherds to you.
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you.
╬Prayers from the Lutheran Book of
Worship. Augsburg Publishing House: Minneapolis, 1978.
- Towns and Rural Areas:
God, our creator, you have ordered seedtime and harvest, sunshine and rain.
Grant that all the people of our nation may give thanks to you for food,
drink, and all that sustains life; may honor the land and water from which
these good things come; and may respect those who labor to produce them;
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (p. 43)
- Agriculture: Almighty
God, we thank you for making the fruitful earth produce what is needed for
life. Bless those who work in the fields; give us favorable weather; and
grant that we may all share the fruits of the earth, rejoicing in your
goodness; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (p. 45)
- Harvest of Lands and Waters:
O gracious Father, when you open your hands you
satisfy the desire of every living thing. Bless the land and waters, and
give the world a plentiful harvest; let your Spirit go forth to renew the face
of the earth. As you show us your love and kindness in the bounty of the
land and sea, save us from selfish use of your gifts, so that men and women
everywhere may give you thanks; through Jesus our Lord. (p. 49)
- Conservation of Natural Resources:
Almighty God, in giving us dominion over
things on earth, you made us fellow workers in your creation. Give us
wisdom and reverence to use the resources of nature, so that no one may suffer
from our abuse of them, and that generations yet to come may continue to
praise you for your bounty; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (p. 49)
- Thanks for the Harvest:
Most gracious God, according to your wisdom deep
waters are opened up and clouds drop gentle moisture. We praise you for
the return of planting and harvest seasons, for the fertility of the soil, for
the harvesting of crops, and for all other blessings which you in your
generosity pour on this nation and people. Give us a full understanding
of your mercy, and lives which will be respectful, holy, and obedient to you
throughout all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (p. 49)
- In the Time of Scarce Rainfall:
O God, giver and sustainer of life, in
this time of need send us the gentle rain, so that we may receive the fruits
of the earth for our benefit and for your praise; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. (p. 49)
