Faith Factors Research
A ten-year longitudinal study of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 year olds in which life, faith and faith community affiliation are reviewed.  The most often cited positive influences of faith development are cited.  "Best practices" ministries with youth and young are described.

Coming of Age Book Cover Coming of Age: Exploring the Spirituality and Identity of Younger Men
Augsburg, 2006

What is the state of faith today among younger men in the church? How is the church responding to the spiritual needs of a new generation? Armed with these questions and many more, authors Roland Martinson, Paul Hill, and David Anderson conducted interviews with young men (ages 18-40) of differing life and faith experiences, and differing ethnic backgrounds in six regions of the U.S. This new book, Coming of Age, is based on the results of this study.

Parenting with Purpose. Youth and Family Institute, 2001

Using simple language and practical suggestions, the authors focus on how parents can nurture faith and life through the various stages of a child’s life: infant, toddler, and young child. This is an excellent book for a parenting course for those with children from birth to age six. It can also be used as a resource book in the home.

Effective Youth Ministry: A Congregational Approach. Augsburg, 1988

“How can our congregation revitalize its youth ministry? What approaches work the best? What resources are available to us?” Roland Martinson responds to these common questions with this comprehensive, theologically sound, and practical “hands- on” approach to youth ministry. Using proven principles and a sound biblical foundation, Dr. Martinson shows how congregational leaders can:

  • understand today’s youth and their needs
  • organize for youth ministry
  • develop leadership
  • get a program started
  • involve youth in peer ministry
