Cut and Paste methods in Word

Options for Cut/copy and paste: there is no wrong way!

First way:

  • Highlight (click and drag your mouse) whatever text or image you would like copy or cut/delete.

  • Go to edit click on cut (if you wish to delete a section), or copy (if you simply wish to copy it)

  • Place your cursor wherever you wish to paste your copied text/image and click on file, then paste

Second way:

  • Highlight/select the text or image you wish to copy/cut/delete

  • Right click your mouse, chose your command from your option list that will appear

  • Place your cursor where you want your copied text to be inserted and paste

  • Right-click again and chose from your command, paste

Third way:

  • Highlight/select the text or image you wish to copy/cut/delete.

  • Click on the [copy] copy icon

  • Place your cursor where you want your copied text to be inserted and paste.

  • Click on the [paste] paste icon

 You can cut and paste from:

  • The same document

  •  One document to another

  • The net to a word document and vise versa

  • Word document to power point and vise versa

  • Email to a Word document and vise versa

  • Contents of a footnote or endnote (be careful of the numbers carried over with the copying)!

Forth way:

If you have a large document that you wish to copy into another document.  Instead of copy and paste.

  • Open your document.

  • Place the cursor where you wish your copied text to be placed

  • Go under Insert, click on file and choose your other document from the file option

Fifth way:

Highlight/select the text or image you wish to copy/cut/delete 
Control c
to copy
Control v to paste

Practice:
Try to copy the above into an email body message and email it to yourself.

Note: If you can highlight it you can copy it.  You can cut and paste:

  • Tables

  • Pictures

  • Text

  • Headings

  • Background colors

  • Anything that you can highlight
